In the wake of Disney’s controversial announcement that African American actress Halle Bailey will play Ariel in the Live Action Remake of “The Little Mermaid”, the company made another casting choice public. Taylor Lautner, famous for his role as Werewolf heartthrob Jacob in the Twilight Saga, will play Emperor Kuzco in the upcoming live action remake of The Emperor’s New Groove (2000).
In a press release issued by Disney this morning, the details surrounding the decision were outlined:
Taylor joins the cast of our live action remake of the The Emperor’s New Groove which will hit cinemas in the Fall of 2020. We found Taylor to have such a wide acting range that he will make an excellent Kuzco. His voice acting is also phenomenal making him a perfect fit for the animated llama-part of the film. We’re thrilled to begin pre-production this August and are happy to have Taylor on board.
We reached out to Mr. Lautner for a short comment:
Loved the movie as a kid, this is a dream come true!
The Emperor’s New Groove is slated for October 2020 – we’re excited to see if Taylor can bring some of that Werewolf-energy into this project.
